BEST Sugar To Use For Holiday Baking

Can I just say, I LOVE Christmas!

I’m Jewish so this may seem a little weird to say but seriously, who doesn’t love Christmas?  It’s cold outside, the air smells like smokey firewood, you get to connect with friends and family, and there’s always a reason to be drinking hot apple cider or cocoa.

That’s heaven in my book.

I also adore holiday baking.  I’ve said it before that I’m not much of a baker but there is something about baking in December that gets my inner Betty Crocker cookin’.  It starts in November with me sending my mother copious emails with the title “Let’s make this!”  The emails contain any number of dessert recipes I’ve stumbled upon that I want to put directly in my mouth.

Now I know you are thinking, “Yeah but Jamie, aren’t desserts unhealthy?  Isn’t that a lot of sugar?”

The answer is kinda, sort of.  Most traditional desserts do have a ton of white sugar which I am not a fan of.  However there are any number of alternative sweeteners you can use that don’t spike your blood sugar the way the white stuff does.

And so I go home and my mother and I tinker with the recipes using alternative sugars to get the sweetness just right that satisfies our tongues and our tummies.
