Change is Guaranteed
When my daughter cries like she's being hung upside down by her toenails, is up multiple times a night or simply wants to nurse again for the 10th time in 6 hours I find myself wishing this time away.
Wishing she were older. More independent. More self-reliant. Less prone to sh*tting herself.
And then I catch myself, take a breath and say, "Jamie, don't wish this time away. Don't wish away her need of you. Don't wish away sleepy half-smiles, midnight snuggles and the way she attacks your breast like a starving piranha.
Don't wish away what is such a sweet, tender, hard, exhilarating and ultimately short time. The two of you have the rest of your lives to be older. In fact, older is guaranteed.
So just relax mama and breathe into the tears and the frustration and the difficulty. Breathe into what's hard and know that there is no need to wish it away. It will change soon enough. As all things do.
